Some facts and figures about CCTV in Broxtowe:
- The CCTV control room operators assist the Police.
The CCTV cameras can identify an offender by his face at 150 metres and identify an offender by his clothing at 200 metres. At 200 metres, the offender cannot see the camera.
The CCTV control room is manned by trained operators 24 hours a day.
We monitor signals from Eastwood Town Centre, Stapleford Town Centre, Kimberley Town Centre and Beeston Town Centre plus other re-deployable cameras throughout the borough.
We use fibre optic cables to get the signals back to the control room.
There are 7 different radio links coming back into the control room which enables over 200 business premises to pass live information to the CCTV operators.
During the evening many of the pubs, night-clubs and restaurants in the town centres turn their radios on and work with CCTV and the Police, in an attempt to combat violence and drunken offences.
We have direct access with the Police at the Southern area control room by a dedicated telephone line. As an offender is being tracked, the Police can talk to the CCTV operators via a dedicated telephone line and direct Police Officers to the exact location.
There is a Police radio in the control room which is monitored by the CCTV staff, who can direct cameras to an area that has been referred to on the police radio. This also provides a means of communication with the CCTV control room and the police officers on the ground.
