Discounted Microchips For Eastwood Dog Owners
18/06/2012 - Dog owners in Broxtowe Borough can microchip their dogs for just £5.00 at Broxtowe Borough Council's low-cost drop-in event in Eastwood's Coronation Park, Plumptre Way on Saturday 30th June, between 12.00pm and 3.00pm.
The drop-in event will invite borough residents to microchip their dogs for £5.00, whilst non-borough residents may also microchip their animals for just £15.00.
Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Stan Heptinstall said: "Following the success of past microchipping events, Broxtowe Borough Council is once again offering a discount to local dog owners to encourage them to take responsibility for microchipping their beloved pets.
"Although owners are required by law to ensure their dog is wearing collar and identification tag, a microchip significantly increases owners' chances of being reunited with their animals should they become lost or stray."
211 stray dogs were found between April 2011 and March 2012 and 71 were never reclaimed by their owners and had to be placed up for adoption.
Dog owners do not need to make an appointment to microchip their animal and can simply turn up on the day. Dogs are required to wear a collar and lead.
