Where asylum seekers arrived prior to April 2000 Broxtowe Borough Council (as well as other Local Authorities) had a statutory duty to offer assistance to them under the National Assistance Act 1948.
The statutory requirement for the notification of certain infectious diseases was introduced at the end of the 19th century. Illnesses such as cholera, smallpox, typhoid had to be reported in London from 1891 and in the rest of England and Wales from 1899.
The adult bed bug is an oval insect, 5mm long by about 3mm broad. If the bed bug has not recently fed it is very flattened and red-brown in colour. Once it has fed it changes to a dark mahogany colour and becomes more rounded.
There are several species of carpet beetles including the two-spot carpet beetle and the variegated carpet beetle; the adult beetle is around 4½ - 7mm in length.
