01 Public Speaking at the Development Control Committee
Broxtowe Borough Council is committed to extending public involvement in the planning process.
There is already extensive consultation and neighbour notification procedures for all applications. However, for those applications considered at the Development Control Committee, public speaking allows people to have their say directly to councillors.

02 Code of Good Practice for the Planning Service
This Code of Good Practice is a guide for councillors and for officers of the Council who deal with planning matters. It follows the Local Government Association's national recommendations for ensuring that the local authority planning service is administered fairly. The Code informs local residents and potential developers about the procedures which will apply.

04 Working from Home
Working from home or running a business from home can be an attractive means of earning an income. Depending on the nature of the activity, some small businesses can be carried out successfully in residential properties and residential areas without problems. This leaflet explains how the Council assesses whether planning permission might be required.

05 Enforcing Planning Control
Sometimes development is carried out without planning permission. This is often due to lack of knowledge of the planning legislation. In other circumstances the development or activity may have been granted planning permission but fails to be built in line with the permission granted. This leaflet explains how the Council deals with these issues.
06 Think of the Neighbours!
In the Council's experience neighbour disputes arising from house extension proposals can often be difficult to resolve. Careful thought about how you extend and early discussion with your neighbour could prevent some of these difficulties.
It is important to achieve a balance between the interests of those wishing to extend a property and the interests of the occupiers of adjoining properties, present or future. Therefore careful consideration should be given to how the proposed development will look and the likely impact on both the locality and the neighbours.

07 Extending Your Home
From time to time the need for space within the home will change. Although many people respond to this by moving house, others prefer to remain in familiar surroundings and adapt their home to meet changing needs.
In designing a new extension consideration should be given to the effect of the extension on the appearance of the existing building and the street scene as a whole, as well as on the amenity enjoyed by residents.
08 Respecting the Green Belt - When extending buildings
The Green Belt is one of the most important national planning policies. It provides protection for the countryside round the built up area of Greater Nottingham and links up with the Green Belt around Derby.
All the countryside in Broxtowe Borough falls within the Green Belt.

09 Residential Development on Small Sites
Small unused or underused sites within residential areas may be appropriate for infill housing development.
This leaflet provides advice to enable developers to an assessment of the potential for development on land and to show how any new development can be best achieved.
10 Fences, Walls and Gates
Depending on the height and location of a wall, fence, gate or other means of enclosure, planning permission may be required.

You can normally lay a driveway, patio or hard standing at your property without the need for planning permission.
This leaflet identifies the circumstances where planning permission is needed and gives advice on the treatment of such areas.
12 Alterations to the roof of a house
Alterations to the roof comprising an enlargement or an addition may require planning permission.

13 Designing your Shop Front
Shop fronts play an important role in contributing to the attractiveness of the street scene. Well-designed alterations or replacements to shop fronts should enhance the appearance of the premises and the town centre as a whole, whilst also meeting shopkeepers' requirements.
14 Shop Front Security - Keeping the street lively
It is important to maintain a lively, attractive and comfortable appearance within our town centres even after the shops are closed.
To encourage this and promote good security design Broxtowe Borough Council has produced this leaflet to illustrate the types of security shutters that are acceptable according to our planning policies.
