Broxtowe Borough Council offers Swimming facilities at Bramcote and Kimberley Leisure Centre. Both pools provide a wide variety of swimming lessons for all ages and abilities including the Under 5's, Juniors, Teenagers and Adults.
The Centres Swim schools are run in co-ordination with the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA); the English National Governing Body for Swimming. Both Swim schools operate under the ASA's National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS).

The Water Buddies Swim School achieved the Aquamark 'Premier Scheme' status in November 2008 for providing a quality Swim Programme that is committed to consistently improving the standard of service delivered and variety of programme offered to all.

Lesson Structure
All lessons run on a course basis; one lesson per week for up to twelve weeks.
Bramcote's swimming lessons begin from when your child has its first vaccinations and continues on to Pre-Club level where we offer opportunities to continue on with their chosen swimming discipline (e.g. competitive swimming, rookies, Flip 'N' Fun diving, Aqua Fun Synchro) and onto a club if desired.
The Under 5's Programme
Our Under 5's programme works towards the ASA Duckling Awards. The courses are split into the following groups:
- Aqua Babies 1 - first vaccinations up to 1 year
- Aqua Babies 2 - 1 - 2yrs
- Aqua Babies 3 - 2 - 3yrs
- Pre-School - 3 -5yrs
For all of the lessons above, you go in the water with your child and are guided by the qualified Swimming teacher on practices and activities to develop your child's swimming. From these courses your child will then progress onto our Junior Lessons.
Junior Swimming Lessons (Aged 5 years +)
All our Junior lessons are run in co-ordination with the Amateur Swimming Association's (ASA) Ofsted endorsed National Plan For Teaching Swimming.
- Turtle 1, 2 & 3 - ASA Levels 1 to 3
- Seal 1, 2& 3 - ASA Levels 4 to 6
- Dolphin 1, 2 & 3 - ASA Levels 7 to 9
The current courses are running from week commencing 4th May 2010 to week commencing 26th July 2010.
Pre-Club
- Is a course developed to give children an insight into training in a club environment where they complete training programmes and develop their competitive starts and turns.
Fun Courses
Bramcote has recently developed fun courses for Juniors to allow them to experience the fun side to learn to swim whilst developing new skills in the different swimming disciplines. The courses offered include:
- Rookie Lifesaving
- Flip 'N' Fun diving
- Mini Polo
- Aqua Fun - synchronised swimming
Teenager Swimming Lessons - Age 10 -15 years
- Teen Beginners Classes
- Teen Improver Classes
Junior Swimming Fitness
Is a pay as you go scheme designed to offer Juniors with a weekly fitness class that continues to develop their swimming technique and improve their stamina
Mondays 6 - 7pm
Adult Lessons
Adult Swimming Fitness
Is a class offered to Adults who can already swim but would like to increase their stamina and develop their swimming technique further.
Wednesdays 6.00 - 6.45pm
Getting Started
All lessons run on a course basis, with one lesson a week for up to twelve weeks. Payment must be made in full at the time of booking in order to secure a place.
Kimberley Leisure Centre
'Learn To Swim Programme'
All Swimming Lessons at the Centre follow the Amateur Swimming Association's (ASA) Ofsted endorsed National Plan For Teaching Swimming.
Swimming Lessons operate during School Term Time (usually a twelve week course) Mondays through to Saturday (at selected times).
Pre-School Swimming Lessons (Aged 3.5yrs to 5yrs)
- Classes are taught in the Teaching Pool, and have a recommended class size of 6.
- Pre-school lesson work through the ASA Duckling Award Scheme.
Junior Swimming Lessons (Aged 5 years +)
- Junior lessons in the Teaching Pool work through to Level 5 of the ASA's National Plan For Teaching Swimming, and have a recommended class size of 8.
- Junior lessons in the Main Pool work through to Level 10 and presently continue onto the Bronze ,Silver and Gold Swim Challenges, and have a recommended class size of 12.
Rookie Lifeguard Course
The Rookie Lifeguard Programme is the Junior Award Scheme of the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK). The scheme is primarily aimed at children aged 8-12 years. The Award scheme contain survival, rescue and sports skills as well as life support and water safety elements.
Adult Swimming Lessons -'It's never too late to learn to Swim'
The Centre offers both
- Beginners Lessons - These courses are designed for absolute beginners and those who have lost their water confidence. The Swimming Instructors are understanding, patient and the over all atmosphere is friendly and inviting.
- Improver lessons - A course designed for adults who would like to improve their swimming technique and stamina or learn a new stroke.
