Durban House Heritage Centre
'A mansion-like building'. As a boy D.H. Lawrence would pick up his father's wages from this impressive building, which was the offices of the local coal owners, Barber, Walker & Co.

Mining Heritage
The Heritage Centre offers an exhibition on D.H. Lawrence and the local area's proud mining history.
There is also a temporary exhibition space known as the Rainbow Gallery with a fantastic and varied programme of exhibitions from photography and contemporary art to local history and crafts. See Our What's On Page for details
And why not finish your visit with some light refreshments or a spot of lunch from the Rocking Horse Bistro also on site?

The centre is also a great venue for weddings, wakes and conferences. We offer a economical, friendly service in a historical location with catering provided by the renowned Rocking Horse Bistro.
From Eastwood to the World
Durban House is also the home of the wonderful, epic painting, 'From Eastwood to the World', donated in August 2008 by Dr Ala Bashir in August 2008, an Iraqi artist of international fame. This stunning piece can be found in the main stairwell.
