This year's Beeston 'Switch On' event, will be taking place on Saturday 28th November from 2.30 pm until 6.15 pm. The festivities will begin at Broadgate Park where shoppers entering the town centre, will be greeted by the sizzling sounds of 'Oriole Jazz'. You can listen to the music while you meet the Christmas Elves with their 'Goodometre'. They will be testing pedestrians young and old, as to whether they've been good, just a little bit naughty or downright bad and telling you whether you can expect Santa Claus to bring you any presents this year. The Elves and Oriole Jazz can be found near the entrance of Broadgate Park for a whole hour and then you will be able to catch the elves again from 4.15 until 4.45pm in the Square.

In Beeston Square proceedings begin at 3.30 pm with a specially commissioned dance with the Manushi Dancers led by Vina Ladwa – local resident and Indian Dance specialist. Vina has been working with her dancers to create a performance that fuses the traditional Christmas Lights event and Diwali celebrations.

At 4.55 pm you can witness the first outing of the newly formed 'Nottingham Pop Choir' – who will be singing a few seasonal pop classics and hoping to recruit new members. The group meet weekly in a Beeston venue and if you are interested in joining you can contact the Arts and Events team at Broxtowe Borough Council and we will forward your details to the choir leader.

Following a fantastic reception at this years 'Proms in the Park' event, 'Mood Indigo' are back to perform a selection of sassy, jazz and lounge music classics – alongside the occasional seasonal swinging tune, reminiscent of Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and the 'Rat Pack' era. They will perform in the Square from 4.15 to 4.45 pm

The 'Switch On Ceremony' with the Mayor of Broxtowe, Cllr John Longdon accompanied by Emma and Twiggy from the 96Trent FM breakfast show, will take place from 4.45 with a spectacular fireworks display to follow at 4.55 pm

From 5.10 until 6.10 pm a fantastic musical finale to the evening will be Soul X Press delivered by 'Soul X'press' on stage in the Foster Avenue Car Park. Soul Xpress is one of the Midlands best soul and dance bands.  The band's lead singer Phinesta Taylor is from New Orleans Louisiana and has one of the most powerful yet sultry voices around.  This five piece band will cover tunes from Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Gloria Gaynor, The Supremes and much more.

Other attractions on the day include kiddies rides along the pedestrianised High Street and larger rides and refreshments stalls in Foster Avenue Car Park.
