I want to Volunteer! How do I get started?
To get started, all you need to do is to complete the online application form which can be accessed from the 'Online Forms' section. Once you have completed all parts of the application form, select the submit button to ensure your application has been submitted.
Once we have received your application form we will arrange to meet with you to discuss the opportunities that are available to you.
What happens at the volunteer meeting?
At the volunteer meeting we will discuss all the opportunities available and the types of activities that you could get involved in. You might already have your own ideas of where and who you could volunteer with, so please bring them with you!
It is important to remember that you need to enjoy your volunteering so you must choose sports that are of interest to you. You must also select days that you know you are available to volunteer on. Volunteers need to be committed, so it is important that you select a day(s) that you can commit to.
Typically it is the intention of all Broxtowe Sport Volunteers to volunteer on a weekly basis at a regular activity. It is therefore necessary for a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check to be completed at the meeting.
What is a DBS Check?
A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) is a criminal records check from Central Government to assess the suitability of a person to work with young people and/or vulnerable adults.
The check involves completing a short form and providing some proof's of identity. A member of the Broxtowe Sport Team will give you further information regarding the check when they contact you to arrange a meeting with you.
What happens once I've signed up?
Once your DBS form has been processed and returned to you, you will then be able to start volunteering. Whilst we are waiting for your DBS check to be returned, we will start looking for a place for you to volunteer.
Once we have organised your volunteering placement, we will contact you to arrange a start date. At your first session a member of the Broxtowe Sport Team will meet you before the start of the session to induct you as a Broxtowe Sport Volunteer. The member of staff will also introduce you to the person who you will be working with (your mentor) and make sure you are settled in your placement.
Further support and help?
Once you have started volunteering, your mentor at your placement will be able to provide you with support. You can also contact Broxtowe Sport if you need any further help or assistance at any time.
