BACS Direct Payment

We would like to make payments of Housing Benefit by direct payment into your bank account. It saves us money and sooner or later cheques could be phased out. You will have noticed that already some big companies no longer accept cheques as a method of payment.

Receiving Housing Benefit by direct payment into your bank account could save you time as you will not have to visit your bank to pay your cheque in. You will have access to your money sooner - payments arrive instantly as cleared funds, so you can use the money straight away.

You could also earn interest earlier too. It is more secure, cheques can go missing and it is more reliable - typically, you will receive the money earlier than those who do not receive payment this way. If you are a landlord, we will continue to issue schedules to advise you who the payment is for.
