After finishing school, Councillor Derek Burnett began working as a Plumbing and Heating Engineer before joining Nottinghamshire Police in 1971. As a teenager, he was a member of Young Conservatives.
Since 2007, Derek has been a member of the Conservative Councillors Association, whilst serving Nuthall Parish since 2011. He was Chairman of Greasley Parish Council 2005/06 and is currently the Vice Chairman of Nuthall Parish Council.
Derek currently sits on various committees for Broxtowe Borough Council, including Licensing and Appeals and Alcohol and Entertainment. He is also a member of the Computer Working Group, part of Greasley Parish Council's Environment Committee and Nuthall Parish Council's Finance and General Purposes Committee.
A member of Nuthall West with Greasley (Watnall) CAT, Derek is also a Caseworker, County Treasurer, Prison in-reach worker and County Training Officer for Soliders, Sailors and Airmen Families Association Forces Help (SSAFA FH) for the Nottinghamshire branch.
In his spare time, Derek enjoys sports, like Formula One and cricket, swimming and spending time with his daughters and granddaughters.
