The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

To mark 60 years of the Queen's reign, the Diamond Jubilee took place in 2012. Celebrations centred on an extended weekend between Saturday 2nd and Tuesday 5th June.

To mark the event, over 4,200 beacons were lit across the country, including the following in Broxtowe Borough:

  • Coaltip near Cockerhouse Farm, Brinsley.
  • South Broxtowe Jubilee Beacon in Common Lane, Bramcote
  • Parish of Greasley at The Horse and Groom, Moorgreen 
  • Sandy Lane Open Space, Bramcote
  • The Gate Inn, Awsworth
  • The Old Cross, Stapleford

Hemlock Happening

Four Diamond Jubilee parks nominated

Broadgate Park, Beeston; Hall Om Wong Open Space, Kimberley; Coronation Park, Eastwood and Queen Elizabeth Park, Stapleford have all been awarded special Queen Elizabeth II Playing Fields status to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The award offers each of the four sites, nominated by Broxtowe Borough Council, protection as areas of green space for the public to enjoy and enables the Council to bid for funding to further improve the sites. Please see the related article on the right-hand side for more information.
