    1. Local Authority Trading Company – User Consultation

      At its Cabinet meeting on 22 September Broxtowe Borough Council agreed the principle of creating a Local Authority Trading Company to operate the existing leisure and cultural services provided by the Council.

      This is not externalisation or privatisation. The new company will be wholly owned and operated by Broxtowe Borough Council and it must, by law, continue to exercise control over the company to the same degree as it currently does.

      This does not mean that nothing will change, but it will allow the council to operate in a more efficient way and the new company will have an increased commercial focus allowing it to react more effectively in the business environment within which it operates.

      The increasing financial pressures on local government and in particular this Council, means that we must explore new and innovative ways in respect of the delivery of services, otherwise these same services will be under threat, particularly those non-statutory services such as leisure.
