Born in Bramcote, Martin Plackett was educated at Waverley and Cambridge House Schools before studying Textiles at what is now Nottingham Trent University.

Martin enjoyed a long career in the Textiles Manufacturing Industry around Nottinghamshire in roles as a Director and Manager.

A former Councillor in Derbyshire, Martin has served the Conservative Party in various capacities at both local and area level since 1955, working for the Party at every General Election since that year in five different Constituencies.

Martin is currently an Officer of Broxtowe Conservative Association and has served as a School Governor in both Primary and Secondary schools across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Martin has also been a Church Warden at St Michael's and All Angels Church for over 25 years.

He is member of the Housing and Leisure, Licensing and Appeals and Alcohol and Entertainment Committees, as well as Bramcote CAT.

In his spare time, Martin keeps a busy schedule on the Wollaton Park Probus Club, as a Bramcote Old Church Tower Charity Trustee, a Frances Dixon and Catherine Gregory Sherwin Charity Trust and a member of Notts County Cricket Club.

Martin's hobbies include Gardening and entertaining family and friends.
