Rapid Testing Available To Everyone Over 18
All Nottinghamshire residents over 18 will be able to access free, rapid lateral flow tests for themselves and their families twice a week.
From 9 April, in line with the government announcement, people aged 18 and over in Nottinghamshire and Nottingham will be able to collect two boxes of seven tests per person or four boxes per family from our asymptomatic community testing sites. People collecting boxes from our community testing sites can also have a supervised test to help ensure that tests done at home are accurate.
With rapid testing offered to everyone, people are being encouraged to take regular tests to help prevent outbreaks and get back to a more normal way of life.
What is community testing?
Community (asymptomatic) testing is for people who don't have COVID-19 symptoms.
1 in 3 people who have COVID-19 don't have any symptoms so could be spreading coronavirus without realising. Having regular tests can help stop this chain of transmission.
You do not need to book a community test. People taking part in community testing are asked to have a test at least once a week, ideally twice a week, for up to six weeks. Please return for tests regularly to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
Community testing is not for those who have coronavirus symptoms. If you have symptoms, then you must self-isolate and book a test online (opens in new window) or call the NHS Test and Trace service on 119.
What is the test like?
Lateral Flow Test (LFT) detects the presence or absence of coronavirus by applying a swab or saliva sample to the device’s absorbent pad. The sample runs along the surface of the pad, showing at the end a visual positive or negative result dependent on the presence of the virus.

A mobile testing unit will begin visiting the site from 10.00am on Friday 19th March.

- The car park will be closed for parking until further notice.
Remember you don’t need to book - just turn up.
What to remember
If you have a smart phone please bring it with you, fully charged, to register for your test result. If you don't have a smart phone, staff will be available to help you on site.
Please bring a face covering as you'll need to wear it in the testing centre.
Those attending are asked not to bring bags or other items with them that they don't consider to be essential. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult and children under the age of 12 will need an adult to help with carrying out the swab test.
If you've tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days, please do not come for a test.
Results of your rapid test
If you have a smartphone, after you've had the lateral flow test, you can leave the centre. The result from the test will be sent to you by text, usually within 30 minutes.
If you don't have a smartphone, you'll be asked to stay at the site until the result comes through.
If your result is negative, it means COVID-19 was not detected on the day. If you and your household do not have any symptoms of coronavirus you can continue to carry on your usual daily activities. You must come back each week while your local centre is open to have another test.
A negative test is not a guarantee and you should continue to follow prevention measures including regular hand washing, social distancing and using face coverings in enclosed spaces.
If your result is positive, you, and your household will need to begin isolating for 10 days immediately.
If your Community Test result is positive, you will need to take a second PCR test.

Help and support if you test positive
If you or a member of your household tests positive, then you will need to self-isolate for 10 days. You will be contacted by NHS Test and Trace.
If you are staying at home due to COVID-19 and need food, try to book a delivery from a supermarket or local business, or ask family, friends or neighbours to deliver supplies to your door.
NHS Volunteer Responders can help with shopping and medicines delivery, as well as regular friendly phone calls and transport to and from health appointments. Check if you are eligible by visiting the NHS Volunteer Responder website (opens in new window) and call 0808 196 3646 between 8am and 8pm to arrange support.

What is community testing?
Community testing is a Lateral Flow or rapid test for people without symptoms of COVID-19. It is a quick and reliable antigen test detects the presence or absence of coronavirus from a swab or saliva sample.
Who should take part in community testing?
Community testing is for everyone in our community and no one will be turned away from a testing centre. In Broxtowe we are especially keen for adults who are unable to work from home to be tested. So if you work in a front line job, come into contact with the public or work in an environment with lots of other people then we would like to see you at one of our testing centres.
What happens when I go for a test?
- You queue in a socially distanced way outside the venue/mobile test vehicle. You register online using a QR code and an online form. If you don’t have a smart phone, a colleague will register you at the main desk.
- When you have registered, you’ll be directed to a testing booth. Staff will ask for the barcodes on your form. Sanitise your hands, blow your nose, sanitise your hands again and you’ll be handed a swab. There are mirrors and printed instructions to help but staff will talk you through how to swab your throat and nose. An adult must accompany all children under the age of 16 and administer the test to children under the age of 12.
- Hand your swab back for analysis and sanitise your hands again.
- You will be asked to confirm the last three digits on the barcode of your form.
- You can then leave the testing centre.
You will receive your test results within 30 minutes.
Take a face covering with you (you must wear it at the test centre) and bring a smartphone if you have one to register for the test and to receive your result.
Do not bring an unneeded items such as bags.
What happens if I don’t get my results through by text?
On the rare occasion that you don’t get your result, please return to the test centre for a second test.
What happens if I test positive?
Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 must begin to self-isolate with their household for 10 days.
You should not return to a community testing centre for 90 days.

What happens if I test negative?
Continue to adhere to the latest guidance on local restrictions. You must continue to stay at home and wash hands, cover face and make space.
How often should I get tested?
Ideally you should be tested twice a week for six weeks, however we ask that you come back regularly for a test.
Why should I get tested?
Because one in three people who have COVID-19 don’t have any symptoms. It can be passed on without knowing. Having a regular test keeps you and your loved-ones safe.
Businesses who are permitted to open during the pandemic are encouraged to send their workforce for regular non-symptomatic testing. This will help to keep their colleagues and the community safe.
