Change, Grow, Live (CGL) New Directions County South is a drug and alcohol treatment and recovery service for adults in Nottinghamshire. CGL is committed to delivering services in the heart of the community and work from a range of community locations including: Broxtowe - Stapleford, Beeston and Eastwood Volunteer Centre

Who is eligible for the service?

The service is open to anyone over the age of 18 living in Nottinghamshire.  If you are experiencing issues around drug and/or alcohol use, please contact CGL staff on 0115 896 0798 for more information or to make an appointment.

CGL also take referrals from GPs, other treatment providers, housing providers, probation staff and other professionals working in the sector.

What CGL do and how they do it

  • A confidential and non-judgemental service with a warm welcome
  • A service tailored to the individual needs of the service user
  • Rapid access to advice, information and a full recovery assessment; including assessment for detox and residential rehab provision
  • Structured treatment including clinical and psychosocial interventions
  • Emphasis on peer mentoring and visible recovery to support service users throughout their recovery journey.
  • Recovery planning
  • Opportunities to become a volunteer or peer mentor

Young People's Substance Misuse Service

The Young People's Substance Misuse Service provides information, advice, support and treatment for young people up to 18 years old with drug and/or alcohol problems in Nottinghamshire.  The service aims to support substance users to achieve their goals in relation to managing their substance use.

The service will listen to you about your current difficulties around drugs and/or alcohol and help you think about how your difficulties can best be addressed.

The help offered may include: advice about reducing your drug use and/or alcohol intake; support and advice about any health issues; individual treatment to support you in relation to your substance use goals; support accessing other services which may help you; support and advice about other issues to help you stop taking substances.

Service opening hours

Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm

Accessing the service

Young people can contact the service directly or alternatively ask their GP or other health professional to make a referral to the service.  The service will then contact you to arrange your first session which will last around 30 minutes.

Drugs and the law

Under the Misuse of Drugs Act it is an offence to:

  • Possess a controlled substance unlawfully

  • Possess a controlled substance with intent to supply it

  • To unlawfully supply a controlled drug (even where no charge is made for the drug)

  • To allow premises you occupy or manage to be used for the purpose of drug taking

Drug Paraphernalia

Drug Paraphernalia is the term used to describe equipment used for taking drugs.  This can include anything from cigarette papers, skins, rizlas for rolling a joint to smoke cannabis to a needle to inject Heroin.

What to do if you find drug paraphernalia .......

If you find a needle or a syringe ..... do not touch it!

Please ring our customer services section on 0115 917 7777 who will arrange for someone to come and remove it.

If you find any other paraphernalia please report to Nottinghamshire Police.
