European Parliamentary Elections - Thursday 23 May

European Parliamentary elections are being held on Thursday 23 May 2019.

Nominations to stand in these elections must be submitted to the Regional Returning Officer. Information is included in the Notice of Election (.pdf) (80KB) (Opens in a New Window)

Voting at Polling Stations

For the European Parliamentary election, electors will not have to take identification to enable them to vote at the polling station.

Deadline to register to vote at the European Parliamentary Elections

Anyone who is not already registered to vote at their current address must register by Tuesday 7 May 2019.  Applicants can register online (Opens in a New Window) or can contact Electoral Services for an application form.

Deadline to apply for a Postal Vote at the European Parliamentary Elections and Dispatch Dates

Applications to apply to vote by post (Opens in a New Window) must be received by 5:00pm on Wednesday 8 May 2019.

Your postal vote must be received by 10:00pm on Thursday 23 May 2019 to be counted.  The completed pack that you return to us must include:

  • Your completed ballot paper,
  • Your security statement, which must include your signature and your date of birth.  If you do not sign the security statement, or provide a date other than your date of birth, for example, the date you signed the statement, your postal vote will not be counted.

Deadline to apply for a Proxy Vote at the European Parliamentary Elections

If you are unable to vote yourself at the polling station, you can appoint someone to place your vote as your proxy.  Applications to apply for a proxy vote (Opens in a New Window) must be received by 5:00pm on Wednesday 15 May 2019.

We will send your nominated proxy a poll card that will allow them to vote on your behalf at your polling station on Thursday 23 May 2019.  Your proxy can apply to vote by post on your behalf but they must complete an application form and submit it by the postal voting deadline, which is 5:00pm on Wednesday 8 May 2019.
