A Parliamentary Election has been called to take place on Thursday 8 June 2017.

Standing as a Candidate

A briefing for Candidates and Agents on arrangements for the Broxtowe Parliamentary Constituency will take place on Tuesday 2 May at 6:00pm in the New Council Chamber at the Town Hall, Foster Avenue, Beeston.

Note;  Ashfield District Council will be holding a similar briefing for the Ashfield Parliamentary Constituency on Wednesday 3 May 2017.

Deadline to register to vote at the Parliamentary Election

If you are not already registered to vote at your current address, you will need to register by Monday 22 May 2017.  You can register online or contact Electoral Services for an application form.

Deadline to apply for a postal vote at the Parliamentary Election and dispatch dates

The deadline to apply for a postal vote at the Parliamentary election is 5:00pm on Tuesday 23 May 2017.  You must first complete and return an application form to us, and then your ballot papers will be posted to you.

Your postal vote must be received by 10:00pm on Thursday 8 June 2017 to be counted.  The completed pack that you return to us must include:

  • Your completed ballot paper,
  • Your security statement, which must include your signature and your date of birth.  If you do not sign the security statement, or provide a date other than your date of birth, for example, the date you signed the statement, your postal vote will not be counted.

Deadline to apply for a Proxy Vote at the Parliamentary Elections

If you are unable to vote yourself at the polling station, you can appoint someone to place your vote as your proxy.  You must complete an application form, giving the details of your appointed proxy.  Applications to apply for a proxy vote must be received by 5:00pm on Wednesday 31 May 2017.

We will send your nominated proxy a poll card that will allow them to vote on your behalf at your polling station on Thursday 8 June 2017.  Your proxy can apply to vote by post on your behalf but they must complete an application form and submit it by the postal voting deadline, which is 5:00pm on Tuesday 23 May 2017.
