Gas Servicing & Maintenance
It is vital that gas appliances and pipe work in your home are checked for safety at least once every 12 months.
The Council has a legal obligation to ensure that this work is carried out and performs this with its 'in-house' Gas Engineers, who will check the appliances and pipe work and ensure that they are safe for you to use.
It is in everyone's interest to ensure that our contractors are allowed into your home to ensure this work is carried out, otherwise you are in danger of, for example, Carbon Monoxide poisoning. This is a highly poisonous gas which is produced when gas appliances are not working properly, or flues are blocked.
When the Council's contractor calls to visit you, ask to see their "Gas Safe" Installer identity card. The card will have their photograph, trading title and "Gas Safe" Registration Number. When work has been carried out to service or test the appliances the engineer should leave you a copy of the testing certificate.
It is important that you and your family are as safe as possible in your home. Gas can be very dangerous.
