Post Ref: F42 - Principal Accountant

Salary: Up to £41,818 (pay award pending) (Grade 12)

We are looking for a motivated and ambitious finance professional with relevant qualifications, skills and experience to work in our Accountancy team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a part qualified or qualified accountant, with great prospects for personal development and career progression as part of a multi-disciplinary finance team.

You will lead a small team in delivering a quality service to departments, combining management accounting, financial accounting, and business acumen in contributing to the whole accounting cycle from budget preparation and monitoring to production of the Statement of Accounts.  An important aspect of the role is finance business partnering to ensure all services receive quality financial advice and information.  You will also oversee a variety of financial management systems, provide support with the Council’s Medium Term Financial Strategy, and prepare the Collection Fund accounts.

You will be self-motivated, have a positive attitude, and a willingness to search out   service efficiencies within a continual improvement environment.  You will lead by example and provide support and motivation to others in the team.

The ideal candidate should be a qualified or part-qualified CCAB accountant and have relevant experience or similar transferrable skills.  Applications are also welcomed from qualified AAT accountants with exceptional skills and experience at a similar level. 

Not worked for Local Government before?  We welcome applications from people working within other sectors with transferrable skills.  On the job training will be provided in respect of the workings of local government finance.
