Salary: £34,425 - £36,336 per annum - Grade 10. Designated car user allowance, flexi time, 37 hours per week.

You will be working in a busy section dealing with environmental protection including statutory nuisance investigations, drainage, air pollution, contaminated land, noise control, planning applications and licensing consultations.

Applicants must hold a qualification in environmental protection.  Whilst knowledge of contaminated land is desirable, experience in statutory nuisance and related enforcement is more important and professional development in contaminated land work will be supported.  This post would also be suitable for a newly qualified EHO with an interest in contaminated land or environmental protection who has experience in dealing with complaint work and investigations.

You will need to be highly motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team.  You will be challenged to use your technical and scientific knowledge and excellent communication skills to maintain a high standard of customer service across the service area and be able to deal effectively with difficult situations achieving positive outcomes.  This is a demanding job with a varied workload and a requirement to meet strict deadlines with a risk based approach. 

You will have the ability to analyse complex information and make informed decisions with often conflicting demands and need to keep up to date with current legislation, regulations, guidance and technical developments. The ability to take the lead and make decisions on specific pieces of work is essential. The successful applicant should also possess the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Relevant enforcement experience in environmental protection and statutory nuisance including noise, odour, light and other potential nuisance is essential for this position.  You will need to be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of applicable law and practice including different enforcement options.  Use of the new powers under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 will be expected in appropriate circumstances.

The post holder will lead on the Contaminated Land Work for the team including prioritisation of sites, developing the contaminated land strategy, reviewing reports on environmental assessments and planning consultations, dealing with contaminated land information requests, producing reports and assessing and sampling our private water supplies and participating in other routine environmental sampling programmes. 

Use of mapping and/or contaminated land software and competency or an additional qualification in noise is highly desirable.
