Salary: £16,394 - £16,763 per annum. 37 hours per week. Fixed term for 18 months.

An opportunity has arisen within our busy HR department for an Apprentice to formally train and develop the skills to become a HR professional.

This job will provide on-the-job training and experience in a varied and interesting environment, along with undertaking a formal HR qualification via Apprenticeship Training to suit your needs during the fixed term.

Broxtowe Borough Council has around 750 employees, which includes a wholly-owned Leisure company and the HR team deal with all employment-related matters from recruitment to restructures and retirement and everything in-between.

This opportunity will enable the right candidate to fully experience the inner workings of Human Resources in a large organisation that serves the public.

You’ll be able to shadow the HR Team in complex disciplinary, attendance management and grievance matters and also learn how to deal with everyday employee queries and issues whilst learning problem-solving skills along the journey. You’ll be guided throughout the contract and be able to lean on the experience of the HR team.

We’re looking for an individual who has experience in:

  • Dealing with people
  • Administration
  • Using Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Understand the need to be sensitive and to maintain confidentiality

What you need to know:

    • The role is for a fixed term of around 18 months
    • Working hours are 37 per week, with normal office hours being Monday to Friday, 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
    • You will undertake formal training during the contract which will be provided by an external training provider – willingness to travel will be essential.
    • We are happy to consider part-time hours (minimum of 30 per week)
    • While apprenticeships are available to anyone aged 16 or over, our apprenticeship scheme is mainly targeted towards young people aged 16 – 24. Please note that this does not disqualify you applying if you are aged 24 and over.

Successfully shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend a formal interview which may include a test/scenario/exercise in order to determine suitability for the role.
