Consultation: Beeston Article 4 Direction 2021: Houses in Multiple Occupation

The Council has recently made what is known as a ‘direction’ regarding Houses in Multiple Occupation (often referred to as HMOs or HIMOs) in parts of Beeston and Beeston Rylands.

Currently, planning permission is not needed to change the use of a dwellinghouse to a HMO with 3-6 residents. The effect of the direction would be that, within the specified area, planning permission would be needed for this change of use.

The area concerned is shown on this map(.pdf)(373KB)(Opens in new window).

It is proposed that the direction will come into force on 26 March 2022.

There is now an official direction(.pdf)(1MB)(Opens in new window) for this area. A site notice has been put in place at approximately 60 locations and this is the site notice(.pdf)(99KB)(Opens in new window).

If you would like to make any representations on the direction, please send them to policy@broxtowe.gov.uk by 26 February 2021. (Those without internet access can make representations by writing to: Planning Policy, Broxtowe Borough Council, Foster Avenue, Beeston, Nottingham NG9 1AB.)

All representations made by 26 February 2021 will be considered by the Council and a decision will then be made on whether or not to confirm that the direction will come into force. Any representations received after this date will not be accepted.

Background information is included in the February 2020 committee report(.pdf)(3.5MB)(Opens in new window) and in the report of consultants Iceni(.pdf)(555KB)(Opens in new window) on student housing needs.
