Markets in Town Centres

Markets are a great and cost effective way of increasing the retail presence and diversity in areas, whilst at the same time providing a powerful tool for generating extra footfall for local businesses.

The Council are keen to support the expanding market presence in town centres and facilitate regular markets of all types across the Borough, including Night Markets and Street Food events.

In addition to regular markets, the Council will continue to host one-off, seasonal and specialist markets throughout the year, including the hugely popular arts and craft fairs.

Stall holder charges for Council ran market days

Beeston

  • Stall holder ground rent for a single market day per 3x3m plot, is charged at £15 (ad-hoc bookings/trial days). Multiple plots can be purchased at an additional charge.
  • Stall holders that wish to attend our markets more regularly, can benefit from a reduced ground rent of £10 per single market day, per 3x3m plot. In order to qualify for this reduced tariff, a stall holder must pay for an entire month in advance. For example, a stall holder that wishes to attend every Monday market only during February 2022 (four Mondays), on a 3x3m stall plot, can pay a reduced tariff of £40 to do so. Otherwise, single market day tariff applies per 3x3m plot.

Stapleford

As an introductory offer, ground rent in Stapleford is charged at a reduced rate for new stall holders to encourage new traders and establish a core group of regular traders. Stall holders wishing to stand at our newly established market in Stapleford can benefit from:

  • New stall holder ground rent for a single market day, is FREE for the first six weeks for a 3x3m plot. Larger/multiple plots will need to be agreed prior to trading with the Markets Officer.
  • Following the introductory free period of six weeks, traders wishing to continue trading at the market can do some at a reduced rate of £5 per 3x3m plot, for the following twelve weeks.
  • After the tapered increase to stall holder ground rent, the full rates for a single market day will then apply and be charged at £15 per 3x3m plot.
For example, a stall holder that wishes to attend every Thursday during June 2022 (four Thursdays), on a 3x3m stall plot, can pay a reduced tariff of £40 to do so. Otherwise, single market day tariff applies per 3x3m plot.

Kimberley

The Kimberley market launched on Tuesday 1 March 2022. As an introductory offer, ground rent in Kimberley is planned to be charged at the same reduced rates as the Stapleford market (details above) to encourage new traders and establish a core group of regular traders.

Stall holders expressing an interest in standing at the Kimberley market, should contact the Markets Officer for an informal discussion.

Cancelled Market Days

Both the Council and external market operators reserve the right to cancel a market at any time. Details of a market cancellation are usually provided through the respective operators social media page/s with notice. Adverse weather conditions or other factors may deem the cancellation of a market to be necessary in the interest of public safety.

Changes in government guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic, to include additional 'localised' restrictions that may affect changes to market trading or the wider use of Town Squares, are subject to change at anytime.
