Kimberley Lifeguard Named Top for Second Year

12/08/2016 - Kimberley Leisure Centre are celebrating after Leisure Assistant, Lizzie Shaw was named No.1 female Lifeguard in the UK for the second year running. The Leisure Centre itself came second overall against 38 other facilities in the UK.

Lizzie retained the prize out of 750 lifeguards in the UK as part of the Royal Life Saving Society's (RLSS) annual competition.

"I'm very happy with the result and retaining 1st place and all our hard work has again paid off. I'm proud to be part of such a great team at Kimberley Leisure Centre and that the facility itself has also been rewarded as having the second best team of Lifeguards in the UK. We're looking forward to trying to better these results next year! said Lizzie."

Of the top ten female lifeguards named in the competition, four were from Kimberley Leisure Centre and in total, six of the Centre's lifeguards were in the top 50.

The competition, administered by the Institute of Qualified Lifeguards is known as the IQL & CIMSPA Lifeguard Triathlon. It's called a triathlon as it's a combination of three different elements of lifeguarding - a timed swim; cardio-pulmonary resuscitation; and a theory test.

Kimberley Leisure Centre's Trainer-Assessor, Stephane Chambrelan added:

'We're so proud to have six of the UK's top lifeguards at Kimberley and it shows the tremendous effort and dedication shown by all of the team to make sure that we offer a high quality service to our customers.

The Centre organises training courses to become a lifeguard during the year for those looking to begin a career in leisure.
