Broxtowe Nonaganarians Celebrate Queen's 90th Birthday

10/06/2016 - Broxtowe Residents who share their birth year with the Queen celebrated in style yesterday at a Right Royal Afternoon Tea Party hosted by Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Graham Harvey.

Sandwiches, tea, cakes and a special birthday cake were served to over 40 Broxtowe residents who were born in 1926 along with their guests at the event, which was also attended by Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Trevor Fletcher at The Spinney in Nuthall.

Kenneth Clarke, who turns 90 today (Thursday 9th June) cut a specially made Royal-themed cake at the event and a number of the guests were reunited with fellow residents who they had known in childhood.

The tea party is part of a number of other events that have taken place to celebrate The Queen's 90th birthday, including the 'Clean for the Queen' events in March as well as the beacon lighting in Stapleford on 21st April.

The Queen's official birthday is on Saturday 11th June 2016 and communities across the Country will be celebrating with similar events, street parties and services.
