Broxtowe Celebrates its Older Residents

23/09/2016 - We all know an older person and what better time to celebrate them than during a host of events taking place across Broxtowe Borough for Older People's Week, which returns from Saturday 24th September.

For the fourth year running, the Council will be offering a wide range of activities and community events across its Retirement Living schemes for its older residents, their friends, family and any local people who want to reconnect with the older generation.

The packed programme includes:

  • Give It A Whirl - dancing skills, Saturday 24th September, Beeston Youth and Community Centre, 2.00pm

  • Autumn Fun Festival - songs from the 60s and stalls, Monday 26th September, Template Centre, Nuthall, 1.00pm

  • An Afternoon At the Races - bringing Ascot to Beeston, Monday 26th September, Bexhill Court, Beeston, 1.00pm

  • Hi-de-Hi - Information on Retirement Living and food delivery services - Tuesday 27th September, St Barnabas Church, Chilwell, 10.00am

  • TV Quiz - test your TV knowledge, Tuesday 27th September, Humber Lodge, Beeston, 10.30am

  • The Fab Two - Beatles tribute band, Tuesday 27th September, The Willows, Beeston, 1.30pm

  • A Celebration Of Ireland - Irish Folk Group, Wednesday 28th September, Yew Tree Court, Beeston, 1.30pm

  • Wild Wild West - music, stalls, bouncy castle, Thursday 29th  September, Washington Drive Community Centre, Stapleford, 11.00am

  • The Roaring 20s - Jazz and Blues, Thursday 29th September, Templar Lodge, Beeston, 12.30pm

  • Ivory Silk - Country music, Thursday 29th September, Regency Court, Beeston, 1.00pm

  • The Big Birthday Bash - fun, magic, games and birthday cake, Scalby Close, Eastwood, 2.00pm

  • A Glimpse Of India - a celebration of Indian Culture, Friday 30th September, Venn Court, Beeston, 11.00am

Older People's Week takes place from Monday 26th September until Older Person's Day on Saturday 1stOctober. This year marks the ninth annual event that celebrates the contributions and achievements that older people make to society, and to encourage different generations to share skills and experiences.
