Important Decision Reached For Broxtowe Housing Needs

27/01/2017 - Protecting the Borough’s greenbelt and a much needed new school for Bramcote

Broxtowe Borough Council has taken a further step in meeting long term housing needs after its Jobs and Economy Committee approved recommended housing site allocations as part of The Part 2 Local Plan.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Richard Jackson said:

“Some Green Belt boundary change was unavoidable given the scale of the housing challenge we face but this has been kept to a minimum and by bringing forward previously developed sites we have been able to protect areas including Nuthall and Nethergreen, north of Eastwood.”

“The Committee has worked closely with resident groups on their neighbourhood plans to ensure that the local community will benefit from future development, including significant provision of publicly accessible open space in and around the allocated sites, ensuring no job losses on proposals affecting Kimberley Depot and Caravans site and securing a school rebuild in Bramcote and the long term future of Bennerley viaduct in Awsworth.”

The Aligned Core Strategy comprises the Part 1 Local Plan which was adopted by the Council in September 2014 following a public examination by an independent Planning Inspector.

The Part 1 Local Plan set out the need for developing, including houses as well as broad locations and environmental protection considerations such as the Green Belt.

The Part 2 Local Plan sets out detailed allocations to meet the full housing need set out in the Core Strategy over a five year period, as well as up to 2028.
