Ten Award Winning Years For Broxtowe Open Spaces

16/7/18 Two Broxtowe Open Spaces are celebrating after retaining their Green Flag awards for the tenth consecutive year.

Colliers Wood, Morgreen and Alexandrina Plantation/Sandy Lane, Bramcote are both celebrating ten years of being a prestigious Colliers WoodGreen Flag Award winning site.

The Green Flag Awards recognise and reward the best parks and green spaces across the country. A Green Flag is a sign to the public that the space boasts very high standards, is well maintained and has good facilities.

Chair of the Leisure and Environment Committee, Councillor Shane Easom said: “Colliers Wood is one of the Borough’s most popular sites with a important heritage and wildlife qualities and we are delighted to be celebrating its tenth consecutive Green Flag Award.”

The judge visiting Alexandrina Plantation and Sandy Lane Local Nature Reserve commented that the Friends Group are a shining example of a hard working and dedicated community group who working in partnership with Broxtowe Borough Council really care for the green space and have worked tirelessly for 10 years to keep the site in great condition for people and wildlife to enjoy.

Colliers Wood is one of the major Open Spaces in Broxtowe and is a focal point for community participation in environmental and recreational activities. It is much appreciated by dog walkers, families, children and schools/community groups. There are many key and varied features including a network of surfaced footpaths and developing woodland areas.

The Borough Council is also celebrating retaining the Green Flag at Bramcote Hills Park, as well as at the Community Green Flag sites at Brinsley Headstocks and Bramcote Old Church Tower.
