Broxtowe Shows Pride In Parks With £500,000 Investment

29/03/2018 Broxtowe parks and open spaces will benefit from a £250,000 investment after Broxtowe Borough Council’s Leisure and Environment Committee approved plans earlier this week. An additional £250,000 has been set aside for improvements in 2019/20

£125,000 will be allocated to making improvements to Council owned play areas which have been identified as high priority sites in the Council’s Play Strategy. Funding bids have also been made to supplement the investment by the Council.

These include:

  • Broadgate Park, Beeston
  • Leyton Crescent Recreation Ground, Beeston
  • Jubilee Park, Eastwood
  • Millfield Road Open Space, Kimberley
  • Redbridge Drive Open Space, Nuthall
  • Central Avenue Recreation Ground, Stapleford
  • Salcey Drive Open Space, Trowell

The other £125,000 will be shared amongst those Town and Parish Councils in the Borough who maintain their own parks to help improve their facilities, including Awsworth Parish Council, Brinsley Parish Council, Greasley Parish Council, Kimberley Town Council, Nuthall Parish Council and Trowell Parish Council.

As part of the improvements, the Council will be a launching its ‘Pride in Parks’ campaign to promote the work being undertaken and encourage local people to make use of the Parks and Open Spaces in the Borough.

Chair of the Leisure and Environment Committee, Councillor Shane Easom said:

“Parks and open spaces are for everyone – they’re places to keep active, to play, to socialise and to enjoy the great outdoors, so it’s really important to the Council that we continue to invest in our open spaces. I hope that our local residents are looking forward to seeing the changes and are encouraged to spend more time using and enjoying the new and improved facilities that will be provided.’’
