Make Sure You Know How To Have Your Say On 2 May

29/04/19 - BROXTOWE VOTERS are being urged to make sure they are ready to take part in the local Borough, Town and Parish elections taking place this week.

Polling stations will be open from 7.00am to 10.00pm on Thursday 2nd May and this year, residents can only vote at their polling station if they bring ID.

You can bring one form of specified photo ID, like a passport or driving licence, or two forms of specified non-photo ID, like a council tax bill and a bank statement.

You’ll need to produce acceptable ID or have registered for a certificate identity by 5.00pm on 1st May.

Acceptable ID includes:

One form of photographic ID

  • Passport
  • Driving Licence
  • Electoral Identity Card
  • European Identity Card
  • Ministry of Defence Identity Card
  • Travel Pass
  • Photocard Parking Permit
  • Debit or credit card
  • Bank statement
  • Mortgage statement (dated within 12 months of the election)
  • Credit card statement (dated within 3 months of the election)
  • Utility bill (dated within 3 months of the election date)
  • Council Tax bill
  • P45 or P60 (dated within 12 months of the election)
  • Poll card
  • Birth certificate
  • Marriage or civic partnership certificate
  • Adoption certificate
  • Paper driving licence
  • Benefits statements
  • Student loan statement (dated within 12 months of the election)

Residents should check which polling station is listed on their polling cards to find their nearest polling station.

Postal votes must be returned by 10.00pm on Thursday 2nd May. Anyone who has not been able to post their vote before polling day can take their postal vote to their polling station on polling day and hand it in before 10.00pm.

If you’ve appointed a proxy, then they need to make sure they are able to vote at the correct polling station on your behalf.

The elections for the Stapleford South East Wards of both the Borough and Town Council will take place on 13th June.  A letter has gone out to residents in the Ward with the new deadlines for postal and proxy vote applications.
