Free Wi-Fi For Kimberley And Eastwood Town Centres

01/02/19 - Visitors to Kimberley and Eastwood are set to benefit from free Wi-Fi, after Broxtowe Borough Council’s Jobs and Economy Committee approved proposals to install town centre Wi-Fi last night.

The Committee approved proposals to invest £30,000 in town centre Wi-Fi in Kimberley and Eastwood following a successful scheme in Stapleford which launched in May 2017.

The Wi-Fi will help support businesses in the town centres to work better and encourage shoppers to stay in the towns for longer.

Free town centre Wi-Fi has been available in Stapleford since May 2017 to help revitalise the area and draw in more visitors, with over 16,000 connections per month and invaluable data on dwell time and visitor numbers. The Council is able to share this information and key trends with existing businesses and new ones enquiring about available units and the benefits of Stapleford as a location.

“I’m really pleased to see these plans approved to help revitalise our town centres, support local businesses and provide shoppers with an extra incentive to explore our town centres and all they have to offer. The Wi-Fi will be particularly important in Kimberley where there is poor mobile/4G signal” said Councillor Mel Crow, Deputy Leader of the Council and Deputy Chair of the Jobs and Economy Committee.

The Wi-Fi is expected to be up and running in Kimberley in early spring with Eastwood town centre Wi-Fi to follow soon after.
