Broxtowe Schoolchildren Learn About Recycling

26/7/19 - Schoolchildren at Priory Catholic School, Eastwood, Greasley Beauvale Primary School and Albany Infant School, Stapleford enjoyed a visit from Broxtowe Borough Council’s Waste and Recycling Team this July and had the chance to sit in a bin lorry and learn about recycling.

The children were visited by the Council’s Waste and Recycling Team to hear about the importance of recycling and how they can make a difference at home by putting the right waste into the right bin.

The children learnt about what kind of things they can recycle, where their waste and recycling goes and what they can do to help protect the planet for the future.

The refuse teams showed the children the bin lorry and even allowed them to press the horn a few dozen times!

Priory Catholic School, Eastwood said: “A huge thank you to the team and of course for a great day, all the children thoroughly enjoyed it. They were talking about it for the rest of the day. The workshops were just right for the children, interesting and informative.”

Greasley Beauvale Primary School said: “Thanks so much for yesterday! You and your team were fabulous, and the children were so engaged and enthusiastic with the whole experience. All our staff involved want to pass on their thanks to you all. Brilliant job, please pass on our thanks to everyone involved, our children will remember their experience for a very long time.

Albany Infant and Nursery School, Stapleford said: “The children really enjoyed seeing the recycling refuse lorry and getting the chance to sit in the cab! This was a great opportunity to extend the children's learning about recycling which is an area the school is working on in order to gain the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award."

The visits were part of the Council’s Clean and Green campaign which aims to keep Broxtowe clean and tidy through a range of initiatives, including Community litter picking events to complement existing events, Community Clean Teams, targeting fly tipping hotspots, waste days, litter bin replacement and working with the community.
