D.H. Lawrence: A Comic Book Adventure

D.H. Lawrence: A Comic Book Adventure

05/11/2019 - The D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum has joined with Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature, Pop Up Projects, and education partners the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University to promote reading and creativity to young people.

example of the DH Lawrence exhibition artworkFunding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund has enabled talented young writers and artists (students from Hall Park Academy, University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University) to be mentored by acclaimed graphic novelists Rachael Ball, David Hine and Luke Healy, as well as international publisher SelfMadeHero.

The graphic stories that they have created have been inspired by the life and works of world-renowned, Eastwood born, author D.H. Lawrence. These stories will soon be available to the public for free in the form of a set of six comic collections.  Comics can be collected from the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum.

Going forward the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum will be working with Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature to produce a free ‘Comic book toolkit’, to accompany the comic book sets.  The toolkit may be of particular interest to those who wish to help young people to engage creatively with literature. It will soon be available to pick up at the Birthplace Museum with the comics or downloadable from the museum’s website.

In the meantime the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum is currently hosting an exhibition on the project: D.H. Lawrence; A Comic Book Adventure, until the 23rd November. Visit for free during museum opening hours Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm. While you are in Eastwood make sure you look out for the six Comic Book Adventure banners which can be found outside Eastwood Library and by the Sun Inn. These banners are part of a public art project and have been created to ensure that all the residents of Eastwood are able to enjoy the artwork that has been created.
