It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Eastwood

11/11/2019 - This month sees the magic and delight of Christmas return to the streets of Eastwood with the Eastwood Christmas Lights Switch On event taking place on Tuesday 26th November along Nottingham Road from 6-8pm.

Eastwood Christmas Lights posterThe official light switch on will be at the slightly later time of 7.00pm outside Eastwood Library. Join the Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe and the Mayor of Eastwood with the official countdown. Throughout the evening, you can enjoy music and festive carols from Eastwood Churches Together , Hall Park Academy Students and the headline act for the evening, The Jaxx, an energetic five-piece band, playing hits from the last 50 years. The event will culminate in a fabulous fireworks display at 8pm.

On top of all of the activity taking place on Eastwood square, prepare to be enchanted by the Christmas fairy at the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum once again and tell her your Christmas wishes to pass onto Father Christmas. Grown-ups can have a glass of Mulled wine and some traditional Victorian cake served by the friendly museum team. Afterward, make sure you have a good look around the museum’s gift shop for some carefully selected Christmas gifts.

In Scargill Walk and the craft workshop area,  there will be arts and crafts stalls, also selling beautiful one-of-a-kind gifts ready for Christmas as well as local shops that will be open for longer for the festive occasion.  Warm up in the Library Acoustic Bar with a hot drink as the children meet some festive characters and take photos in the pop-up photo booth.

Jump on the land train and ride through town to soak up all the sights and sounds along the way. Enjoy those festive treats from roasted chestnuts to warm doughnuts while you choose which of the rides you will be having a go on in Iceland’s car park. You can visit Santa’s Grotto too at Lawrence Veterinary Centre.

Don’t forget to pop into the local business that will be staying open throughout the evening. The fun doesn’t stop there; afterward, The Wellington will be hosting live music to keep the festive spirit going.

Please note that there will be a road closure in place from 6pm- 9pm on Nottingham Road. At this point, there will be no vehicle movement allowed from Plumptre Way to Mansfield Road.

The event is organised by L Leisure events and is part-funded by Eastwood Town Council with support from Boyes Retail, the Art and Crafts Fair and Iceland. For more information go to  the LLeisure Eastwood Christmas Lights Event page (Opens in a New Window) .
