Council Tax Support Available For Individuals Affected by COVID-19

06/04/20 - Anyone who is struggling to pay their Council tax because their circumstances have changed due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic can apply for support from Broxtowe Borough Council.

The Government has announced a £500 million hardship fund to help support vulnerable households with their Council Tax and Broxtowe Borough Council’s allocation of this fund will be used to boost its existing Council Tax Support Scheme for those who now face reduced income or who have lost their job.

Anyone who is eligible for Council Tax Support could receive up to £300 extra support in 2020/21. You do not need to apply for this additional support, the Council will provide it to all those who are eligible automatically.

A further £200,000 has been made available to further assist those receiving Council Tax Support if they are struggling to pay their Council Tax. To apply visit our financial support page to complete the form.

Councillor Steve Carr, Deputy Leader of the Council said: “Worrying about paying your bills is a horrible situation for anyone to be in so we are urging anyone who has found themselves struggling as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic to apply for Council Tax Support to help them. Broxtowe is one of the few local authorities who chose not to pass on cuts to Government grant onto its Council Tax support scheme so we have the systems in place to support you, whether you have lost your job or your income has reduced, support is there. The Government has also introduced other schemes to help you from protection for renters, mortgage payments and furloughed workers – visit https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus for more information.”
