Broxtowe Residents Invited To Join Virtual Armed Forces Flag Raising Ceremony

17/06/20 - Broxtowe residents are being invited to thank our Armed Forces as part of virtual celebrations to mark Armed Forces Day on 27th June.

On Monday 22nd June, Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Janet Patrick will be sharing a virtual ceremony to raise a specially commissioned Armed Forces Day Flag to show Broxtowe’s support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

“I’m disappointed that due to the pandemic and social distancing guidelines, we can’t have our usual flag raising ceremony in Beeston Square, but thanks to the wonders of technology, we can share this virtual ceremony with you,” said Councillor Janet Patrick, Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe.

“Flying this flag is our way of showing gratitude for all the Armed Forces do. The Armed Forces Service personnel not only make personal sacrifices to protect the UK and its interests in oversees and home soil, they are also playing a key role in the country’s response to the pandemic. I would like to thank all of them for defending the Country and protecting our lives no matter what we are facing.”

This year’s Armed Forces Day will take place on Saturday 27 June 2020. Unfortunately, the Armed Forces Day National Event in Scarborough has been cancelled due to the pandemic but you still can mark the Armed Forces Day with family at home.

Three things you can do to mark Armed Forces Day 2020

  1. SALUTE OUR FORCES – you can learn how to salute like Service personnel at https://www.armedforcesday.org.uk/get-involved/saluteourforces/(Opens in a new window) and share photos or videos with us of yourself and friends and colleagues saluting on our Facebook and Twitter and using #SaluteOurForces.
  2. Bake a cake for the Armed Forces Day – bake a Union Jack cake with your children.
  1. Picnic or BBQ in Your Own Garden – have a themed picnic or BBQ with your own family in the garden.
