Markets Return to Beeston

Markets Return to Beeston

The market is set to return to Beeston, following intervention by Broxtowe Borough Council. The move is hoped to secure the future of local traders and stall holders, after operators ceased operating in the summer.

The weekly markets, which previously took place on Mondays and Wednesdays each week will be returning from Monday 12th October, supported by Clair Storey, who has recently been employed by Broxtowe Borough Council in the role of Markets Officer.Beeston Market ReopensBeeston Market Reopens

Clair Storey, new Markets Officer for Broxtowe Borough Council said:

“The market is the heartbeat of any town centre and it is no different here in Beeston. There is a wonderful selection of shops, cafés and pubs in this area and the marketplace in Beeston is the space that brings the pavements to life and makes the shopping experience extra special. I am honoured to be part of the team, bringing the market back after months of it being closed. It will bring a much-needed additional boost to this area, which has worked so hard to recover from lockdown”.

Chair of the Jobs and Economy Committee, Councillor Tim Hallam said:

“It’s taken a lot of work so I am delighted for the residents of Beeston that we have now brought back the weekly Monday and Wednesday markets. Whatever new restrictions and measures are introduced by the Government to control COVID-19, we know that people will still need to shop and the safest way to do this is locally, outdoors and whilst maintaining social distancing. We expect that visitors to the market will also support local businesses around the market, who are struggling during these difficult times”.

Businesses around the market have had a challenging year but with the help of COVID Information Officer, Zahid Javed, and support of the local community, it is hoped they will pull through. As Christmas shopping season approaches, local businesses will be doing what they can to continue to offer the best services and products they can, so that the local community can still have the Christmas shopping experience, but in the safest possible way in their neighbourhood.
