Fly A Flag For The Commonwealth In Broxtowe Borough

01/03/21 - Broxtowe Borough Council will join the 54 countries of the Commonwealth to fly the Commonwealth flag in the Borough, as part of the annual Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth Day. This year it will take place virtually due to the pandemic and social distancing guidelines.

The Commonwealth Flag will fly high outside the Council Offices on Monday 8th March with the support of the Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Janet Patrick and Leader of the Council, Councillor Milan Radulovic MBE.The Mayor of Broxtowe and Leader of the Council raising the Commonwealth flag

The Commonwealth theme of this year will be centred around the same theme as last year, which is ‘Delivering a Common Future’ - which highlights how the 54 member countries in the Commonwealth family are ‘innovating, connecting and transforming’ to help achieve some of its biggest goals, like fighting climate change, promoting good governance and boosting trade.

In 2020, COVID-19 has challenged all Commonwealth countries. We remain hopeful that we will emerge stronger and more committed to our values than before. In 2021, the Commonwealth will strive for connection, transformation, innovation and a renewed vision for a world that delivers a common future and serves a common good.

The Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth initiative is again catching the imagination of thousands of participants from all walks of life, inspiring them to join with others throughout the Commonwealth. As a collective public expression of commitment to the Commonwealth, it enables participants to show appreciation for the values the Commonwealth upholds, and the opportunities offered for friendship and cooperation with fellow Commonwealth young and old citizens around the world.
