Tree Planting at Cator Lane

Tree Planting at Cator Lane

23/11/21 - The Mayor of Broxtowe, Cllr Richard MacRae helped schoolchildren from Lanes Primary School in Chilwell create a small community orchard at Cator Lane Recreation Ground.

Broxtowe Borough Council received funding for ten new trees from the Urban Tree Fund including two apple and two pear trees. Children from the school’s Eco Team also helped plant some bulbs including daffodils, snowdrops and bluebells. The event was also supported by Incredible Edible who have been doing some community growing on the park.

The Councils Parks and Green Spaces Manager Tim Crawford said “Broxtowe Borough Council is committed to planting 2,500 trees across the Borough each year as part of The Climate Change Strategy and Green Futures Programme.

It was great to see such an enthusiastic group of schoolchildren taking part and hopefully their involvement will inspire future generations to understand and enjoy the role  that trees play in our Parks and Green spaces. Our thanks go to Urban Tree Fund for their kind support.”
