Cost of Living Statement from Broxtowe Borough Council and Citizens Advice Broxtowe

Cost of Living Statement from Broxtowe Borough Council and Citizens Advice Broxtowe

26/08/22 - Teams from Broxtowe Borough Council and Citizens Advice Broxtowe are working in partnership to help people in the Borough who are struggling with the cost of living.

They want to ensure there is no wrong door when it comes to asking for help. Social prescribers in the NHS and voluntary sector are also contributing to a joined-up approach.

Both organisations have always worked together to ensure the most vulnerable residents get help when they need it. However, the current economic crisis has impacted on all households in the Borough and more people than ever are facing negative household budgets.

Development Manager for Citizens Advice Broxtowe, Neil Clurow said; “In 30 years working in the sector I have never known a situation that has pushed so many households into absolute poverty. Many more households contacting Citizens Advice, once managing fine, would now be defined as in relative poverty with little or no disposable income after paying for essentials.”

Portfolio Holder for Resources and Personnel Policy, Councillor Greg Marshall said: “The current cost of living crisis is the worst in over 40 years, and is having serious financial implications for local people. Citizens Advice provide a lifeline to our communities and Broxtowe Borough Council values the fantastic work they do. Working together with our partners to provide a joined up approach will make sure that we can offer the help and support that is needed for families and individuals who are struggling.”

Advice and additional financial support is available but each household needs to assess their individual circumstances. Dedicated information is available on the council’s website as well as that of Citizens Advice Broxtowe.

The main message is don’t struggle alone. Professional help is available at the Council office in Beeston, Citizens Advice office in Eastwood or the Stapleford Care Centre.
