Trailblazing Nottinghamshire partnership platform shortlisted for two prestigious awards
The awards recognise excellence in addressing the Climate agenda and the innovative partner approach that the Notts stakeholders have taken demonstrates just that.
To date, Green Rewards has over 6,100 members and together have undertaken 158,942 actions, which has avoided emitting nearly 420 tonnes of carbon. That’s the equivalent of taking 90.51 cars off the road for a year or not driving 1,042,5262 miles in an average petrol powered car (the distance is the equivalent of driving round the earth nearly 42 times)!
Executive Director at Broxtowe Borough Council, Kevin Powell said, “I’m thrilled that our programme has been shortlisted for these prestigious awards, residents have really engaged with Green Rewards whether that be taking on the 4-minute shower challenge, or recycling at home. Our subscriber numbers are ever growing and it’s great to see residents taking action now on climate change.
The platform is easy to use, rewards you for everyday activities and allows us all to make small changes that add up to big differences when tackling the impacts of climate change.”
The ground breaking programme has a clear carbon reduction focus and is utilised by residents across Nottinghamshire and Nottingham city. It allows residents to accumulate points for undertaking sustainable actions (these actions lower their carbon footprint, which in turn helps to tackle climate change) as well as capturing the user’s carbon avoidance metrics; helping support the Nottinghamshire Partners commitments to work towards becoming carbon neutral.
In October 2021, seven Nottinghamshire District Councils, Nottinghamshire County Council, Nottingham City Council, the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and platform creator Jump joined together to create the trailblazing Green Rewards partnership. Nottinghamshire is the first County in the country to see all its local authority and education partners collaborate on a climate change reduction project in this way.
Nottinghamshire residents in Broxtowe, Bassetlaw, Gedling, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood, Rushcliffe and Nottingham City can sign up online at www.notts.greenrewards.co.uk (Opens in a new window) or download the app in your app store.
The awards finals are both taking place in June.
