Mayor of Broxtowe Plants Tree of Trees Honouring Queen Elizabeth's Memory
The tree was planted at Bramcote Hills Park (at the entrance to the Walled Garden) on Thursday 2 February. The Hazel tree is from the 21 metre ‘Tree of Trees’ sculpture designed by Thomas Heatherwick that featured as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The tree was planted alongside 1000 bulbs which will bloom from late winter all the way through to summer.
Councillor Grindell said: “Today we are honouring Queen Elizabeth’s memory by caring for the environment and bringing the community together. It is a privilege to be involved in The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative. Hazel trees are historically associated with wisdom and authority, and is a fitting memorial to her Majesty.”
Sir John Peace, Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, commented: “The Queen is dearly missed but this is a wonderful way to continue her legacy. This will help continue to encourage our communities to plant trees and do what they can to help protect the environment, demonstrating her compassion for both the people and nature itself.”
The planting event was part of The Queens Green Canopy initiative, in honour of the Platinum Jubilee of the late Queen Elizabeth II and is one of 350 trees that featured in the Platinum Jubilee ‘tree of trees’. A commemorative plaque for the Queen’s Green Canopy was installed to mark the occasion. The planting event marked the fourth site in the Borough to be registered under the “The Queens Green Canopy" initiative.
