Saturday 15th August marks the 75th anniversary of victory over Japan. The Japanese surrender saw peace after six years of warfare. VJ Day offers Broxtowe residents the chance to reflect.
“VJ Day is a chance for us to take a moment to reflect on the magnitude of the second world war and what the declaration of peace would have meant to the people of Great Britain.” said Councillor Milan Radulovic MBE, Leader of the Council.
“Many parallels have been drawn between the war and the current fight against Coronavirus and we have seen in the recent months that famous British community spirit that was so prevalent during the war. Whilst Coronavirus has meant that we cannot gather in our communities to commemorate VJ Day, we have a number of ways you can get involved from your own home.”
