"Break and Elevate"
"Break and Elevate" “Break and Elevate” is an urban arts festival for all the family on Saturday 17th August. Beeston Rylands Community Association (BRCA) are working with “Beeston Breakers” to bring breakdancing to Nottingham. Since spring 2019 breaking classes have been run from the community centre on Leyton Crescent in Beeston Rylands, and this one-day event will build on the success of the classes and bring breakdancing to a wider audience. It’s all about continuing the positive urban arts theme started with the Beeston Street Art initiative, and developing young people’s skills and participation with the added inspiration of breaking’s inclusion in the summer 2024 Olympics. Breakers Ash Hudson and Christian Dean Mercado have worked hard to bring world class performers to this event including Blanka - Mighty Zulu Kings, MZK and Paco who was featured on BBC’s Got To Dance. Workshops start at 11.30am, and the main event opens at 1pm - 6pm. The festival is free to enter and they’ll be a live DJ, breaking demos, competitions (£5 to compete), street art demonstrations, hot and cold food, various stalls and a licensed bar. The event is being supported by local businesses and funding bodies including The Boat and Horses, Marina Cafe, Beeston Brownies, and East Midlands Airport Community Fund. All profits made will go back into BRCA’s charitable youth projects.Beeston Rylands Community Centre, Leyton Crescent, Beeston Rylands, Nottingham NG91PS Janetmbarnes@ntlworld.com 07904067160
