Beeston Tales is a monthly storytelling night meeting just outside Nottingham. We host our events at Our Lady of the Assumption church hall, Foster Avenue, Beeston, Nottingham, NG9 1AE Parking at the venue. Short walk from a tram stop. Cake and drinks will be available, feel free to bring your own booze! But you can also watch from the comfort of your own home by joining our (unfortunately still a bit temperamental) livestream via Zoom. You'll have to bring your own booze to that as well though. Mythcelium In this show, Katrice Horsley explores the deep connections and sustenance that ancient myths provide us in this current time of polycrisis. We travel with her, looking through the eyes of an ancient tree, whose roots are pushed into the past, whose trunk is in the ever-present and whose branches arch and lean towards the possible future. Enmeshed within it are old stories that will sing in your blood, long after the listening; stories that explore what humans are capable of, both the terrible and the beautiful. Drawing on the image of the underground network of roots and mushroom filaments that enables unseen but vital sharing for the forest as a whole, Katrice offers a resounding invitation to sink your own roots deep into these profound stories. Come and enmesh yourself in the ancient as you sit side by side with others in this present time and then let your imagination yearn towards a future where we are all connected by the stories we share and the stories we hear. This performance of Mythcelium features material originally commissioned by the Festival at the Edge and showcases the capacity of ancient story to nourish, sustain and illuminate us even to this day. “The hardest thing for us to do as humans is to understand the complexity of our own story, yet is only by doing so that we begin to fully understand the complexity of another’s.” Also featuring tales from your hosts, music, fun and frolics. However, we're upfront that mobile reception at the venue is sometimes inconsistent. (Our current set up involves three different mobile devices on separate networks.) This is reflected in our slightly reduced ticket prices for the online offering. Two kinds of tickets are available for online viewing, either select "Attend online - paying" which will set you back £5.50 per device, and an "Attend online - discount"... which is free. We know times are harder for some people than others right now, and we'd much rather have you with us than not. So do come and join us. When you purchase the online ticket, you'll be sent the link.
