How To Pay Council Tax

Payment Options

PLEASE NOTE - Work is being carried out on our website on Tuesday 27th September between 10am and 1pm and 30th September 2pm and 3pm. This will affect our online payments, automated payment system and form payments. Please do not attempt any payments during this time period. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this.

The Council have to pay transaction fees and charges for receiving your payments. If we can reduce these costs, the costs of collecting Council Tax are lowered and this will help keep council tax levels down.

Therefore, the preferred method of payment is by Direct Debit. You can complete and return our Direct Debit Instruction Form (.pdf) (167KB) (Opens in a New Window)

You can pay online via our e-store (Opens in a New Window) or find out more information on other payment methods available using our helpful guide. (.pdf) (39.2KB) (Opens in a New Window)

Problems Paying

If you do not pay your Council Tax the Council will decide the best way to get it back from you and begin recovery proceedings. Do not ignore the notices we send you. It will only make matters worse.

If you have problems paying your instalments on time or have financial difficulties, please contact us immediately. You can also get advice from Citizens Advice Bureau.

For further information on what happens if you do not pay your Council Tax please  view our What Happens If You Don't Pay leaflet. (.pdf) (208KB) (Opens in a New Window)
