All elections and referendums are administered by Electoral Services, along with the compilation of the electoral register.

Registering to Vote

We also send household forms to every property in the borough each year to make sure the Electoral Register details we hold are up to date.  When you receive this form you should:

  • check the details printed on the form

  • confirm the details are all correct by using the telephone registration service, or

  • confirm or amend the details by using the internet registration service or by completing and returning the form by post

To make sure your name continues to appear on the electoral register, you need to respond to this form annually.  You can find out more information regarding the Electoral Register here.

Referendums

Referendums can be held on a national or local level.  Some referendums, such as one to gauge opinion on whether we should have an elected Mayor for the Borough, must be requested via a petition signed by 5% of the electorate.  Each year, the Electoral Registration Officer publishes a notice confirming what the 5% electorate figure is.  This notice can be found here.
