Planning Policy
Broxtowe Local Plan
The new Broxtowe Local Plan will replace the existing Part 1 and Part 2 Local Plans. It will guide how Broxtowe grows and develops over the coming years, setting out the Council’s vision and priorities for future development, including the location of new homes, employment, infrastructure and services. It will also establish how high-quality, well-designed places will be created, while protecting and enhancing Broxtowe's natural environment, biodiversity and green infrastructure.

Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan
Broxtowe Borough, Nottingham City and Rushcliffe Borough Councils are currently producing the Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan. The Plan was submitted for examination on Monday 22nd December 2025. Hearing sessions took place in July 2026 and the Councils are currently waiting for the post hearing letter. Local Plan
Broxtowe Borough Council's Local Plan has been undertaken in two parts:
- Part 1 of the Local Plan (the Aligned Core Strategy) is already established and sets the strategic vision, aims and objectives for the borough as a whole until 2028. The Aligned Core Strategy is currently being reviewed and this will result in the production of the Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan.
- Part 2 of the Local Plan delivers the strategic aims and objectives as set out in the Core Strategy.

Neighbourhood Plans
A number of local communities are currently in the process of preparing Neighbourhood Plans for specific areas within the borough which, once ‘made’, will sit alongside the Local Plan and will take precedence over non-strategic policies.

Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs)
Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) are documents which add further detail to the policies in the Development Plan. They can be used to provide further guidance for development on specific sites, or on particular issues. SPDs can be a material consideration in planning decisions but are not part of the statutory development plan.

Local Development Scheme
The timescale for the preparation of the Local Plan is set out in the Local Development Scheme (LDS).
Measuring Progress
To measure progress towards achieving planning objectives set out in the Local Plan, completed development is monitored and reported in the Authority Monitoring Report (AMR). Land availability and supply is monitored and reported in the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA).
Involving the Community
For all aspects of developing the plan, the Council has set out the way in which it will consult with residents and stakeholders in the Statement of Community Involvement (SCI).
