Broxtowe Creates Festival - June 2024

Information about the Broxtowe Creates Festival which will be running throughout June 2024.

Broxtowe Creates Festival is a new Arts Council funded festival of cultural events and activities taking place across Broxtowe throughout June.

The funding bid was put together through a Community Committee, made up of Broxtowe Borough Council Officers, Members and local people who have expertise in different cultural sectors. The Community Committee was founded as part of a European exchange project with cities in Germany, Sweden, France and Poland, called CCity.

Art Workshops

Art workshops run by local artists including:

  • 1 June – Lino Printing with Marcus Gilmore - 10.00am until 2.00pm at Yellow Wood Café, 42 Chilwell Road, Beeston, NG9 1EJ - Free
  • 8 June – Watercolour Painting with Anjana Cawdell  - 10.00am until 1.00pm at Rumbletums, 2A Victoria Street, Kimberley, NG16 2NH - Free
  • 15 June – Willow Art with Katrine Scott-Mitchell  - 9.30am until 12.30pm at Eastwood Library, Wellington Place, Eastwood, NG16 3GB - Free
  • 25 June – Summer Craft, Chill and Chat - 6.00pm until 9.00pm at The Plessey Centre, Marconi Drive, Beeston, NG9 1NX. The event will be a fun and enjoyable evening where you try your hand at watercolour painting, willow art and glass painting and take home your finished pieces - £15 per person

Art Competition and Exhibition

Broxtowe Creates are also inviting residents to participate in an art competition based on the theme of ‘Friendship’. The closing date is 31 May and you can find out more and details of how to enter at www.abcartstrail.co.uk/broxtowecreatesart/art-competition (Opens in a new window).

The competition will be judged by four talented local artists. Selected artwork will be included in an online exhibition and an in-person exhibition in the former Argos store in Beeston Square from 10 June until 30 June.

Children's Writing Competition

Children can submit their short stories, poems and non-fiction pieces for a chance to win a kindle and national book tokens.

Taking inspiration from D.H. Lawrence’s great love of the natural world and his ability to capture the changing of the seasons in words, entrants are invited to write a short story or poem or celebrating the ‘The Four Seasons.’

A winners event will be held at the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum, 8a Victoria Street, Eastwood, NG16 3AW on 22 June.

Live Music

Kimberley Jam - 22 June, 11.00am until 7.00pm, Kimberley Miners Recreation Ground, NG16 2NB

Live music can be enjoyed from a range of up and coming and more established local musicians on an environmentally friendly, solar powered stage and a second acoustic stage, plus stalls, food and drink, children's activities and rides. Free entry.

Pop Up Theatre

Six free pop up theatre performances will entertain audiences with a selection of comedy, drama and music sketches performed by Beeston Players and Parky Players.

Theatre Performance

  • 2 June - 3.00pm - 4.00pm and 7.00pm and 8.00pm at the Boat and Horses, 137 Trent Road, Beeston, NG9 1LP. A chance to see full performances of ‘Shaken Not Stirred’, a fiercely funny comedy and music sketch show about the challenges of living with Parkinsons, with a sprinkling of Bond. Theatre Workshops

Try your hand at acting and improvisation at one of three theatre workshops delivered by community theatre director Rachel Green and members of the two theatre groups. All workshops will take place at the Plessey Centre, Marconi Drive, Beeston, NG9 1NX.
