Parking Enforcement

Illegal or dangerous parking on the street (i.e. on double or single yellow lines) or in car parks can cause serious problems for all road users, including pedestrians.

The Council works with Nottinghamshire County Council to ensure people park safely throughout the Borough.

Where drivers park in contravention of road restrictions, i.e. on double or single yellow lines etc. Nottinghamshire County Council can act by issuing a penalty charge notice.

If there are no restrictions in place, the Council cannot enforce parking issues.  Under these circumstances please contact:

  • The Police on 101 if the parking is extremely dangerous or obstructive.
  • Nottinghamshire County Council on 0300 500 8080 if you would like them to consider putting in yellow lines or residents parking schemes on a certain street or area.

Parking Fines and Penalty Charge Notices

A parking ticket (known as a Penalty Charge Notice) will be issued for all contraventions and will be subjected to the national differential charging policy of £70 (£35 where paid within 14 days; £105 if paid after service of charge certificate) for high level contraventions or £50 (£25 where paid within 14 days; £75 if paid after service of charge certificate) for lower level contraventions. The money collected from penalty charge notices issued will pay to run the enforcement service.

Paying A Penalty Charge

If you wish to pay a penalty charge notice online you will need the Penalty Charge Notice number (i.e. XQ11223344) and your vehicle registration number then visit the Paying a Penalty Charge Notice page on Nottinghamshire County Council's website (Opens in a New Window) or to pay by telephone please ring 0345 5201357.

Challenge a Penalty Charge

If you think there are mitigating circumstances that caused you to receive a Penalty Charge Notice (or other representations you wish to make) you may make a written challenge/appeal.  Please contact the Nottinghamshire County Council Parking Enforcement Information Team using the online Challenging a Penalty Charge Notice form (Opens in a New Window)  or you can write to Central Processing Centre, PO BOX 10282, Nottingham, NG17 0DX (please include the penalty charge number, vehicle registration number; your name and your address in your letter so they can respond accordingly).

PLEASE NOTE: Once a challenge/appeal is received either on-line or by post the case will be frozen pending investigation.  If you contacted us within the 14 day discount period and your challenge/appeal is rejected then the discount will normally be re-offered for 14 days from the date of the rejection.
